Check to see if the engine has a fuel pump. If the fuel line goes directly into the carb, you don't. If it goes into a square shaped thing with two hoses first, you've got a fuel pump.
If you have a fuel pump, you only need a one line hose and a regular tank. If you don't have one, you either need to get a duel line and tank (often on ebay, search for 'pressure tank') or covert your outboard to a fuel pump. Normally the former is cheaper if you don't already have a single line and tank.
The way it works is this: pressure/vaccum pulses from the crankcase are sent through a check valve, so you only get pressure pulses. This is used to pressurize the gas tank (through one hose) which pushes gas up to the carb (through the other).

You may be able to get it running longer by using the primer bulb as a 'fuel pump', pumping gas up to the carb.

Get back to us.

Hi, Danny.

Welcome to iboats.

Your 1959 engine doesn't have a fuel pump. Originally it used a tank with dual lines; one for gas and the other to pressurize the tank from crankcase pressure. Those tanks and lines can still be found on eBay from time to time.

To use a modern tank, you would need to adapt a fuel pump to the engine and install compatible hose fittings. www.twincityoutboard.com can probably help you with that.

Your correct fuel mix is 24:1; unleaded regular and TC-W3 rated outboard oil. (1 quart oil to 6 gallons gas)

The correct spark plugs are Champion J4C, gapped at .030". Set you points at .020 gap.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. :)
