I let the battery run low, went out for the first time this season and the motor wouldnt start. She cranked a few times before the battery went completely dead. I disconnected the dead battery and replaced it with one of the trolling motor batteries (these were also very low). When re-connecting the cables, the positive cable sparked and the starter runs. The key is in the off position. I have since replaced the battery, but when I tried again to re connect the cables, the starter fires with the key in the off position. I pulled the kill switch, and the starter still fires. I would appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks.

I'd look into the ignition switch first.Could also be a bad starter solenoid. The engine kill lanyard just kills the spark.

OB,<br />Thanks for the help. It turned out to be the starter solenoid. As I understand it, low voltage to the starter solenoid, in this case my dead battery, will cause the solenoid to go out. Got a new battery, replaced the starter solenoid, got the motor started and am ready for the fishing season. Thanks again!
