Default 1989 90hp Evinrude Transfer Port/vacuum hoses

Okay, I admit that my friends and I pulled a newbie error--when stripping the engine down for rebuild, we mixed up the transfer port covers. 2 of them are different in that they each have a nipple for a small hose (vacuum hose?) that runs back to the carbs. The carb ends of the hoses were labeled, so we're good there, but the transfer port cover end of the hose was just labeled as "Port" and "STB".Oy. Do the transfer port covers with the nipples go on Cyls #1 and #3 (top port, top stb) or on #2 & 4 (bottom port, bottom stb)? Or have we just completely mixed this up and they're both to be on the same side?

The intake inspection port covers with the hose fittings go on the bottom cylinders (#3 & #4).Note that the cylinders are numbered as follows: Starboard (right bank) top=1, bottom=3. Port (left bank) top=2, bottom=4.... not the way you listed them. Back up from the engine and look at the s/plugs and you'll see that they line up as I've listed them here.Sometimes the casting numbers on the parts are identical to their part numbers. If so, the cover for #4 (port) cyl would be 323045, and the cover for the #3 (starboard) cyl would be 310532.

Thank you very much! We took a guess today and put them on 1 and 3, and it ran well, but now that I know better I'll pull the starter solenoid and terminal block off and reverse the covers so that they're in the right spots.Again, thank you very much--I had looked all over for an answer--including emailing someone who was selling an identical engine on Ebay!
