Test stator off motor?

Is ther a way to test a stator from a '71 60hp that is off the motor, to see if it is good?<br /><br />Thanks--------Robert

If you have a manual it tells you how to test for continuity and resistance. Cant recall the proper readings right now but its simple to do. Im sure one of the electronic geniuses here can tell you more if you dont have a manual.

You will have two leads coming from the stator, yellow, yellow-gray. Place an ohm meter on the low ohms scale between these two leads, you should have only about one ohm's resistance. To check for a short to ground, place the black lead of meter to Stator core, red lead to yel, then to yel.-gry. With meter on high ohm's scale you should have a very high reading.

For some reason, my factory manual has nothing about testing the stator or any specs.<br />Anyways, thanks for the procedure, it looks like my spare stator is dead as a doornail.<br /><br />Thanks------Robert
