1971 60 horse johnson, Have 2 wires going to bottom of cylinder head. Manual says they go to thermo switch, but nothing else. What the heck is a thermo switch and can I disconnect it without harm?

Re: Thermo switch

It was intended to partially close the choke when the motor was only warm.

Good theory, huh?

They later sent out a bulletin saying to disconnect that thing.

Re: Thermo switch

Dhadley, do these wires run from the junction box around to the other side and into the engine block. Where they go into the block there is some sort of rubber gasket around. Wires like that corroded off my 72 50 hp johnson and i was wondering what they were. Engine seems to start and run fine with the muffs .
