I replaced the water pump on my 1994 60 hp evinrude. Everthing went smooth. Now i am trying to reconnect the shift rod. I can slide the lower unit up fine, but I cannot get that rod to hook to the lever. the manuel does a great job of explaing how to remove it, but not how to put it back on. Do I need to remove the starter to see in? Does the shift rod eye need to be in any particular position?? I know it must be very simple, but I am stumped!
