Re: 110 Johnson

I don't think there was a 1990 110, so first thing would be to check the model number. It's probably a late 1980s, when they did make them.

The V4 was OMCs bread and butter, they are generally good motors. Check the thermostats & compression.

Re: 110 Johnson

They are excellent engines. I rebuilt my 1986 110 johsnon 4 years ago that I picked up from a friend. I just took it off my boat to put a 130 yamaha in its place. The motor has 110 compression on all 4 cyl after 400 hours of 5800 rpm. They are great engines. I have a 150 60 degree but it is not as dependable as my 110. I fish a few miles offshore and the 110 has never let me down. I live in central florida and fish 52 weeks a year. You can't go wrong with a 1990. Parts are inexpensive. Plus once the engine is warm you could pull start it if your battery dies or starter dies. I can not do that with my 95 intruder. Too much plastic on the top.

Billnicole,

The 110 is an excellent engine. It is one of many different horsepower ratings of the venerable 90 degree "crossflow" V-4 block.

That series of engines has been around forever and I believe they did not stop production until around 2000.
