For those of you that know, I gave up my engine and am now shopping for a new one. I was going to go with a four stoke, but my mechanic said they were heavier. Also, he said that the old 85's were about the same as the new 1970's. Two questions: 1-what did my engine weight so I can make sure I don't put an engine that is significatly heavier than original. 2-Is that assessment correct about engine hp? I know they now rate at the prop vice head, but not much else. My boat is rated for 85, so I thought I could go as high as 90 and not hurt anything, but if it's significatly heavier, it doesn't seem smart...<br />Thanks!

The 1970 85 hp weighs in at 265 lbs give or take depending on whether it had PTT.The newer 90 hp 4 strokes are 425 - 430 lbs.
