I have done much searching and reading the site and have not yet found an answer for my situation. Sorry if this is a repeat. I am trying to put a jet lower end on my 1984 Johnson 35 horse outboard (J35ECTS). I removed the lower end and now have a piece of shift rod hanging out and need to connect the jet pump (which has an external shift rod). How do I remove the shift rod from the leg? I looked for a screw, bolt, pin, etc under the carb/starter/elsewhere as described in other posts and came up empty. When I look up into the leg I can sort of see a bolt holding the shift rod to the shifter assembly that goes from inside to outside the leg and eventually connects to the shifting cable. Please tell me there is a method of disconnecting the rod without removing the leg, which looks like a very nasty job. BTW, I consulted a manual that does not seem to cover this well (or at all).
