1973 6hp stuck in neutral

just got motor today. will not budge either way at all. ive just begun to play with this thing and this is but one of the few probs... any ideas?<br /><br />could the shifting shaft be stuck on somthing? i dont know crap about the lower workings of an outboard motor, just the top...<br />motor has been sitting for a bout a year and half

nevermind, i fixed it. but for those who want to learn from my experience this is it...<br /><br />the shifter handle wouldnt budge, at all, unless i hit it with a hammer, then it move a lil bit each hit..<br /><br />dropped lower unit ( accidently broke the lil pin in the shaft)oops, be carefull, <br /><br />drained fluid completely and refilled with boaters world SYNTHETIC lower unit oil. and then once it had nice new lubrication down there, i moved the shift rod and prop around to get the lube a moving.. it works much nicer now. it had just been sitting so long<br /><br />phatmanmike@yahoo.com
