1976 Evinrude 115hp Prop Shaft

I am buying a boat that has a well running 1976 Evinrude 115hp outboard motor and the guys son snapped the prop shaft when installing a new prop. Do I need to buy a new prop shaft and instal it or is it called a drive shaft. I wasn't sure if there is a prop shaft and drive shaft or is there just one or the other.<br /><br />Thank you,<br /><br />Kevin

Welcome to the post Kevin. Wow, he must have really been cranking down on that thing. You will have to get your hands on a new prop shaft, it is separate from the drive shaft, the drive shaft runs down vertically from the powerhead. While your at it I would replace thw water pump and reseal the whole lower unit. Good luck.

don't be afraid to rent/borrow the proper tools either really sucks to have a cracked housing. also try not to tighten prop too tight.
