Someone could Cblguy4u, but the best advice anyone can give you is to get a Manual. Even old timers use a manual for that stuff.

You can get a good aftermarket manual here: http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html

. . .or an OEM Manual here: www.kencook.com

. . .or borrow one at your Library

Member Steelspike used to have in his signature, "Anyone who works on an outboard without a manual has a fool for a mechanic".

A little harsh, but soooo true.

Good luck. :)

Hmmmm. That's good, but not good that it doesn't explain timing procedure adequately.

Let me look for my OLD Johnny Service Manual and see if I can come up with something.

Meanwhile, maybe OBJ or Joe Reeves will come along with better help.

Hang in there. Help will come. :)

That engine, although it should have automotive type ignition, being that old could have had magneto ignition or automotive ignition installed. Which does it have?

Magneto = Plug wires lead straight down out of the bottom of the distributor cap.

Automotive = Plug wires from both top sides of the distributor cap.

I can scan and forward the info you need via e-mail if you contact me, reminding me what we're speaking of (see my address below). After which, the post can continue on here.

I uploaded the five pages of instructions and diagrams to CBL. Hopefully he will let us know how he makes out.
