You could take the number off the switch, and just get a new key. What kind of switch are you shifting that engine with? I've never heard one of these engine's shift into reverse at full throttle. You may get a chance to tell me what it sound's like.

Re: 72 electric shift 50hp

You may take my answer as being critical, because that's what it is. We all like to save money, and make things work, but we are talking safety here. I spent 32 years on the fire dept. and got to see some make-shift alterations. We are talking machinery here, not a toy! All you need is the right time for something like that to jump up, and bite you. I will gladly give of my free time to help someone on this board with a problem, I just don't want to see someone hurt. As for your last question! I don't think you will here it happen. produce a fool proof machine, someone will produce a better fool.

Re: 72 electric shift 50hp

its actually working good. took off carbs and cleand today. starts easy and has excellent compression 160 lbs in both cylinders.

only thing is this, its been sitting about a year or so, and when it runs , there is kindy milky looking water coming outa the exhaust at the prop.. also wh

also, can i use standard style lower unit lube or does if have to be special electric formula, i use synthetic in my other motor.. is there anything i should do seeing as to how i just got the motor running after sitting for long time? thanks
miek
