Default Evinrude model number

Im looking at a 1978 25 horse. Can anyone tell me if i have the model number (which I do have) if it is truley a 25 horse? Thank you,StevePlease e-mail mesteveyawn1@earthlink.net

Hi, Steve.If your 'Rude is a 1978 25hp the model number is either 25852 or 25853.If you have the model number, why didn't you just tell us what it is?No Email. Questions and answers are shared with all members.Good luck.

25802 a '78 25hp through and through.I think the 25852 and 25853 JB refers to are the electric start ones, where 25802 and 25803 are rope start.

SteveThat is the HP rated at the crankshaft. It is 25 HP. Current HP readings are taken at the propshaft. So I guess the answer to your question is, by todays standards, no, not "True" HP. It would be more like a 22-23 HP by todays standards, if you were to measure it at the propshaft. But on that small of a motor, it is not as significant as on a larger one.
