idle problems

I did a carb rebuild job on my 1975 ---- 85-h/p evenrude. It was stalling out when accelerating. It had a lean pop so I had a set of low speed jets that was a size 30 and I installed them. It had a size 27 in them. Took it to the water and now it pulls up to max rs real quick and planes great but when you back down to Idle it will act like it is loading up with fuel but you can accelerate and it will clean up real quick. Gimme some ideas here.

Crankcase/intake manifold leaking? <br /><br />At higher RPMS, a crankcase leak sort of 'seals itself' cause air has no time to rush in/out.<br /><br />Had a little outboard once that had the same symptoms. After a long fight, figured out the bottom crank seal had blown.<br /><br />Hope this helps!

Could it be the larger idle jets causing the engine to flood at idle?<br /><br />I have a similar problem with my 1980 Johnson 55. The idle jets should be #46, but mine are #48. If left to idle for too long, my engine will gradually bog down, but by lifting the stating lever and increasing the revs, it'll clear itself and idle fine for another few minutes until it starts to bog down again.<br /><br />It seems that the larger idle jets provide too much fuel at idle. Could this be the case?

Thanks guys for the input. I found the problem I replaced the jets with a 30 and went back and put a 28 jet in and it cured my problem. <br /> Thanks again
