Hi, I have a 1976 Johnson 40HP. I have replaced the points, condensors, and ignition coils. I want to be sure the points are opening at the correct spot. Is there a way to do this without having the "timing fixture" tool shown in the Seloc manual?

Mike.... Have the fiber rubbing portion of the points lined up with the flywheel key, then set that particular set of points so that a .020 feeler gauge passes through but that a .022 will not.

Also be sure to torque that flywheel nut when you're finished to exactly 105 foot pounds. Any less will result in a sheared flywheel key and damge to the crankshaft and flywheel tapers.

Thank you so much Joe. I believed that you would have the answer for that one. Good health to you and yours.
Mike Strawn.
