ok, thanks for previous help.

Here's what i got, a 1991 28hp johnson. The bottom cylinder runs and top doesnt. So i figure maybe the top ignition coil is bad so i switch them (top to bottom and vice versa). After switching them neither cylinder runs. I switched the igntion coils only(they are the plug in type), the spark plug wires and other orange wires stay in same locations. So i switch them back to the original location and the bottom cylinder runs again.

Re: 28hp, update. Ignition coils????

(i hit the enter button too soon)

Theoretically if the top coil was bad and the bottom was good then when i switched the coils the top cylinder would have fired, right? So im thinkin the coil is bad plus something else? I guess im off to get a new ignition coild before i do anything else.

By the way, when i first started the motor today in the test tank both cylinders ran for about 2 minutes before the top cylinder died. So i believe it has to be electrical and not fuel related. For the most part the top will not run at all but it has "kicked" for 30sec to a min or so while running the motor in the tank.

Any more suggestions???
i am determined to get this thing running so i can finish out the goose season as soon as things thaw out around here.

thanks for the help
james
