I'm ordering a manual from outboard wizard but I'd like to use my boat this weekend. I'm having a shifting problem and was told to adjust neutral center. The manuals I can get here locally don't cover it. can one of you gentlemen tell me the proceedure? Unless it's just too much typing. (I'd understand) THANKS!
Place the boat controls in neutral.Locate the shift arm under the motor cover. Its the steel rod bent at 90 degrees that connects the shift lever and the shift rod.Remove the pivot pin and while spinning the prop(with your foot if you're good)shift the gearcase in forward using just the shift arm.Now shift back to neutral position .You should be able to feel the detent .Now examine the alignment of the holes of the removed pin and if necessary adjust the shift cable trunion nut until the holes are exactly aligned and pin will insert easily.
The manual says to shift gear case in farward gear, move control handle to farward gear about 3/4 throttle, adjust trunnion (adjuster) until cable will just slip over shift linkage, after you pull slack from inner cable. Then shift into neutral, to check detent.
