I have a 2001 225 Evinrude, Mod.#E225FHLSIF, Ser.#G04959553, I purchased in may of 2002 used. The motor was performing great until my last outing in oct. 2003. I was in the last hour of a tournament, an making my last move towardes the ramp, the engine cranked fine (no warnings) but when i tried to plain off the motor was real boggy. I backed of the throttle an let it idle for a couple of seconds an tried again an got the same results, I killed the engine an dropped the trolling motor. My first thoughts was i had dropped a power pack, little did i know these motors dont have powerpacks. The following week i took it to the shop an they found the #2, an #6 blown on the exaust side an noted all indications are of a lean condition. The motor is out of warranty, an only has 136 hours. The estimate on powerhead r & r is $8078.13, I said bull**** an took it to another shop they were $735.00 cheaper. The guy at the first shop did call Bombardier for advise, they said the motor was to far out of warranty for them to assist in repairs, but they did agree that it sounded as though i had a lead condition, an recommended i replace the powerhead, the 2 injectors from the 2 bad cylinders(at $404.56ea.),oil pump, an the manifold. I'am looking for any help or advise that anyone has to offer. My thoughts were bore the 2 cylinders(minor overhaul).

Have your dealer contact Flagship or Riverside for their prices on rebuilt blocks. These companies are the ones that did the factory rebuiilds in the past, and they only sell to dealers.

DFI Technologies can rebuild the injectors, if they are not too far gone.

Thanks for the reply Seahorse, but its the dealerships I don't trust. Or are the prices I gave the goin rate for a complete rebuild, (injectors included)?? :(

Hooty, sounds to me like you might know alittle something about the Ram injection system Good or Bad???? This motor only has 136 hrs. Serviced once an the plugs changed twice since I've owned it, no indications what so ever that anything was goining wrong until she went.

Re: 2001 Evinrude 225 burnt pistons

Sorry about your problem.
I had mine blow on a 2000 Evinrude in2002 and the cost for that new power head was about $9,000
When was the last time that itwas serviced ?If it were recently I'd have a talk with who ever did the work. On the 100 hour check up they are suppose to check to see if it is running lean and adjust.
Also I've found that you could take it to 3 differant shops and you would get 3 differant answers.
Don't know where your from but if around Massachusetts there is or was a rebuilder in southern mass.

Saddaddy,

Those companies do not sell to the public, but if you have an independent mechanic with a business license, he can buy from those rebuilders.

Hooty, do you think thats a dressed p/h? Or a bare p/h? Looks like just a bare one to me. No carbs or other dressing.

Ok guys here comes another dumd question. What's the differance between a carb. p/h an a inj. p/h, is the block an its components not the same?

Re: 2001 Evinrude 225 burnt pistons

Most of the internals are the the same or similar year to year but the pistons are different. The outside of the blocks have different bosses and various other mounting deals. The heads are different. Most often the port timing is different also. The hose routings are way different.

Its possible to put carbs on a DFI block but you better be ready to make major modifications.

Hotty, I'm sure thats just the powerhead (not dressed). If thats a dressed powerhead we need to buy some!

From time to time Flagship had some dressed powerheads but they were on a limited basis.

Re: 2001 Evinrude 225 burnt pistons

Men I would like to thank you all for your responses to my current situation. It really didn't ease the pain, but it did open my eyes alittle. If i'm a manufacture looking to regain the respect these engines lost do to OMC,s neglect to maintain it I,m gonna go out of my way to satisfy the customer, the bomb didn,t do that for me. 136 hours on a motor isn,t squat!!!!! Especially when they all but admit having a problem with that year model(3.3L were only made 1 year). It was to far out of warranty was there excuse (10 months reguardless of the hours an the fact the brain didnt have no fault codes), 6 months earlier an they would have covered it in full. Now add that up. Thanks again

Which year was that? 2000, 01, 02, 03 or 04?

The 3.3L FICHT engine block came out in 2001 and is still used today including on the 2004 motors from 200 to 250 hp.
