still piddling with this new to me 99 200 johnson. had her running on the hose and noticed that the upper exhaust outlets (located beside the tell-tale) appear to have a oily-water mixture coming from them. i know the water and exhaust exit at the prop together, but are they supposed to at these outlets also? thanks, mitch

Those are the exhaust reliefs. Suppose to be there. They take the backpressure off the engine when starting in the water.

c/6
Hooty

yup water and exhaust. Think about what happens when you go into reverse on the water. The pressure builds up on the through prop exhaust so excess cooling and exhaust that cant escape needs to get out somewhere hence the relief ports.
