I would like to know if it is possible to hook a temp gauge to the brown lead coming off the engine. I have a 1979 Johnson 100HP

Hi Lucky....if you are refering to the lead coming off the temp sensor in the head, no. That's just a current carring lead. The temp sensor is just a switch that makes up if the head over heats.
