I've had this unit replaced w/a rebuild that didn't last the 1st time out. I took it back to the guy and supposedly he sent it back to where ever he got it ( he won't tell me )and had it rebuilt again. Now when you spin the prop you can here the gears turning ( or the bearings)spinning.
I haven't had a chance to take the boat out and I'm not sure I want to. He assures me it's fine.I don't recall the last one making that noise when the prop was spun.

In neutral, when the prop is spun, the gears do not turn. The gears turn only when the engine is running. Your repair man sends the unit out to be repaired?? He doesn't want you to know who's doing the work?? What kind of paperwork are you getting to back up your lawsuit against whoever when that expensive unit blows apart??

It might be a good idea to locate a reliable dealership that would tear that unit down for inspection.... someone who isn't a middle man for a secret handyman shop. When someone has something to hide..... well, you know how the rest of that goes.

hello
dude listen to Joe. dont run the unit if you suspect it is damaged. I dont know what part of VA your in but Ron's marine in portsmouth does excellent work with a good warrenty and rapid turnaround times. there are some in the norfolk area that are shakey at the best. that unit is almost bullet proof and very easy to rebuild. no reason for failures out of the box. most out of the box failures are to to improper installation of parts or no special tooling and eyeballing of critical pieces.
get the unit to a dealer and let them have a look.
good luck and keep posting :)
