my '70 johnson

I just acquired a boat with the purchase of a house. It is a '70 85hp johnson. I ran it about 3 times and then it would not start,<br />I opened up the cowling and saw a motorola box modle # 6cb2004 that had four wires coming out of it that did not have any insulation on them (they had rotted off), could this be the cause of it not starting. It does crank but I do not get a spark on any of the plugs.

Could be deterioration, but it sounds like the mice ate the insulation off.<br />First, I would recommend you try the FAQ's heading and see if you can trouble-shoot from there...if not, come back and we'll see what we can do!<br />Welcome aboard!! :)

First move is toget an OMC factory shop and parts manual for your motor. They will save you more than the cost just to get it running.

No, soLittle, the first move was to send him where I did......when, and if he returns would be the correct time to recommend a manual...that's why we set up a "FAQ" section.<br />But, recommend as you wish.

Agree with both of you guys, but he has to get that Manual to work on it now and in the future. The "FAQ" section is good, but there is no substitue for a Manual.<br /><br /> Factory Manual

Rick I agree 100% with owning a manual, but if we all just post links to manuals, the people that visit get zero info or knowledge.<br />There are many areas I think some of us know as well if not better than the manual can explain, and the 2 together, and talking them through the explainations is what they (I) learn from... :)

Kenny,<br />Totally agree! :) If I were going on the description he gave, I would say replace the box, as we already know the wires are fried and more than likely, so is the box.

OK I just got the manual in the mail and it does not tell me what the box is. if I am going to replace it I need to know what it is, and how much I am looking at. The manual is a generic for all Johnson motors 65-115 hp '70-'79.<br /> :confused: [just swabbin the decks]
