water pump guides

72 johnson 100 hydro eletric. had problems lining up intake tubes with water pump housing. bought new guides but did,nt make much difference. the guides fit over the intake tubes but wont fit in or around rubber grommets on pump housing. am i doing somethig wrong or is ther some kind of secret?

hello<br /> are you sure your not missing the top of the housing? the guide tubes fit inside the water inlet/outlets on the top of the pump housing.

im not sure. this is the first boat that ive owned and im somewhat ignorant about the mechanics dealing with the lower unit. it appears that everythig is there and in order. water pump was just replaced by previous owner. the drive shaft comes up through the impellar housing and there is a cover in place. there are two holes in the plastic cover with rubber grommets that fit inside holes with a lip that sits on top. does this sound like the complete cover assy? :confused:
