Default Pontoon Boat Rebuild Project

Hey Folks,it getting that time again. Anyway, My Dad has a 1984 Suntracker Party Barge. It now has a 50 hp merc that works great. After so many years the decking and carpet are toast. We re-decked it, put new carpet and seats, re-designed the driver pedestal (includes GPS, Depth/fish finder, Stereo), and installed an over the motor deck for trolling (rod holders built on the deck), and a built in cooler. It looks great except for the pontoons which are pretty stained.Do any of you all know of a product that can clean them up well. I saw some stuff at Bass Pro (dont remember the name) but it is supposed to clean them up. Before I mess with that was wondering if any of you all have tried anything else and if so how does it work. Thanks,Deerdog

Just for curiosity, how long did it take to replace the deck and carpet. Mine could use it and I'm going to sell it, so it may be worth it to get a higher price..

I guess you could say about a week. Here is how we did itFriday - three of us began stripping all the stuff off of the deck. This includes the pedestal (which also had to be re-done b/c the bottom was rotting), seats, side rails, top, all wiring (which we also replaced). when we were done with this step all that was left was a flat deck. That evening we stripped off the carpet (which was gross) and then the wood deck. The deck was held to the underframe by screws so we had to cut them (most of the time, sometimes they came out).Saturday we began installing the wood to the frame. It went on the same way it came off. Took some time to line up everything but we were done by midday. Then on with the glue and carpet. This takes time to roll out and trim. by Saturday evening we had the new deck on. Sunday we continued to roll the carpet to make sure all air pockets were gone. We had pretty much done this by Sat evening. We then went to work on the new wiring and cleaning up the side rails/panels.We let it set for a week to make sure the glue cured. Meanwhile Dad rebuilt the pedestal. Then on Saturday we put it all back together. We did get new seats that were fitted for the boat. We also competed the back deck installation (trolling deck), cooler installation, and stereo hookup. by that evening we were done. On sunday we put it in the water to test everything out. With the exception of the pontoons it looks new. Hope this may help you
