I wanta thank all of you guys who help with your information. The lift pump was bad and my plugs needed to be indexed. Now I'm having diffuculty setting my boat up for it to run at top performance. I have a 10 inch jack-plate and 26 racker prop, its turning 5900rpms at 68-70mph. Is that good or can I do better. I have a 285 Pro elite Stratos 99 model. Also, I'm I turning to many rpms. Is it good or bad.

If you start raising that engine up. You need to put a low water pick up on the lower unit. There are many nose cone kits with low water pick ups built in. When you start raising that engine vertical the engine will not get enough water to the water pick up. The fitch engine will go into RPM reduction because it can get enough water. Bobs machine shop has them or Land-Sea has nose cones kits in stock. You can weld them on or epoxy the to the front of your lower unit case.
