1986 evinrude 40 hp tilt/trim

I have a '86 evinrude 40 hp w/ T&T. The tilt/trim works fine while on the trailer but while running it seems as if it is lacking the power to trim the motor as high as I would like it. I thought maybe I needed to add fluid but cannot seem to figure out just how to do it. any info would be greatly appreciated....

The fill plug on that motor is either on the top of the reservoir or the side(Right) of the reservoir. Tilt the motor all the way up and look for the fill plug(Screw). Remove it and fill it until it starts coming out. Install the screw back in snugly. Cycle the unit up and down 3 or 4 times, then remove the screw and refill until it comes out again if nessesary. Install screw and tighten.
