I have 1999 16 ft key largo center console with a johnson 1999 50 hp engine (bought both used at an auction). The boat weighs around 1000 lbs. It seems like the engine is not powerful enough for the boat or I need a different prop. When there are 2 people on board it will hardly get up on plane. The prop is probably the stock original. I don't know the size or pitch, etc. What is the best prop for this size engine and boat ? 3 blade , 4 blade???

Hello<br /> the very first thing you must do is run the motor on a test wheel or dyno to insure its makeing all the power its supposed to. then with a known accurate tach swicth props until the motor will turn about 53-55oo rpm with a medium load and a full fuel tank. the prop ID information is on the prop someplace :) :) .unfortunatly most boats I deal with dont have the proper prop on them nor are the engines mounted at the optimum height. Good luck and keep posting
