Recently I asked for help regarding atomizing coming out the carbs on my 1985 140hp TXCO, Johnson. Joe suggested that I check the flywheel key for breakage. Is the key a square, rectangle or woodruff? What is the proper way to prevent the flywheel from turning while torqueing the nut to 145psi? My strap wrench is too small. Thanks

hello<br /> its a woodruff key and while the flywheel is off check the timer magnents and if it has a vented flywheel check the flywheel magnents. I torqued many a looper flywheel with my trusty strap wrench but a better flywheel holder is made by snap on tools for 70 dollars or so. good luck and keep posting

Dude, OMC makes an excellent unit for taking off flywheels. You can also retorque the flywheel using this tool to hold the flywheel.. Cost about $60 nevjb

strap wrench sears sells them for like 20 bucks they work great. it can be used for more then just holding a flywheels and is alot cheaper then a specialty tool. every tool box needs one mine saved me a few times to take off oil filters when people like to wrench them on.
