No, that really doesn't tell us much. The gear shift lever shaft might be frozen just under the powerhead, the shift linkage may have come apart inside the inspection plate (halfway down the exhaust hsg) which would result in a very movable but useless gearshift handle, the lower unit may have had water in it which has caused rusting, etc.<br /><br />Disconnect one bolt from the shift connector inside that inspection plate, then drop the lower unit to see if the problem is in the unit or elsewhere.
