I have a 1990 Johnson 150hp with VRO. I've had no issues. My goal was to go fishing and run down the tank for winter. It ran great until I put Sta-bil in the tank. I had a 1/2 tank and used the proper amount but did not blend it in. After I put it in it ran fine for a minute and then started cutting out. I limped along by squeezing the fuel bulb - Then the VRO low oil warning would beep (too much fuel for the oil?)- I would turn off motor, squeeze the bulb, and repeat the cycle. I got to the dock, pulled the boat and filled the tank with gas thinking this was a Sta-bil mixing problem. I need some ideas.

Have the boat in my driveway now. I can start it with manual choke on. It will run for a couple of minutes if work the choke and even longer if I lightly squeeze the gas bulb - If I squeeze too much the VRO low oil warning comes on.

I have not dumped the 50gal tank. I need to find a place to dump it (any ideas). I've checked all of the fuel lines. I cleaned the fuel filter. Carbs are clean. Plugs were oily. A blast of oil came out of the exhaust when first starting today. Could it be the gas? Could I have screwed something up by running a high concentration of Sta-bil? Is it the fuel pump or sensor?

Thanks, Garry

Hey Gary...

Just off the top of my head it sounds like the VRO went south fer the winter.

If ya gotta squeeze the primer bulb to keep her runnin, then something is wrong with fuel delivery.

Check the hose on the VRO that goes to the block. This is the hose that keeps the pump runnin. Look under the pump. It will be the hose toward the front of the pump. It will go to the pulse limiter which is connected to the block. Make sure all the hose connections are tight.
Check your primer bulb. The bulb has two one way check valves in it. If either fail, the fuel will run back to the tank. Also check the connections on the fuel line. Make sure they are tight.

If it looks OK and yer not real familiar with the pump and how it works, take it to a wrench.

Now....if ya like adventure....get a manual for the engine and check it out yerself.

Keep us posted...thanks....
