1996 WellCraft with Evinrude 112 (sp). When engine is down, trim gauge reads down. Move the engine up, trim guage moves just alittle then stops, guage will not move to the up position.
I do not like to say this but trim gauges are worthless. Turn around and look back at your engine to see the level and also you can feel it in your steering. If it is trimmed up you just will hear your engine over rev and you can see it on your tach.
No Hook Em,

Your trim guage operates off of a sender on the engine. If you tilt the engine all the way up, you should see it in between the clamp brackets near the trim cylinders.

With the engine up, key on-NOT Running, move the wiper arm on the trim sender and see if your guage moves accordingly. If not, your sender is most likely the culprit. Also check all connections at engine and guage ends.
You can also check the sending unit with an Ohm meter. It should have 88 Ohms resistance in the down position and 1 Ohm in the up position.

c/6
Hooty
Raise the engine and lock engine in up position, soak trim sender with blaster, WD40, or auto tramsmission fluid. Move sender back and forth,a few times and retest.
