1958 Evinrude 5.5HP gas delivery problem.

I have a 1958 Evinrude Fisherman 5.5HP OB motor. I have what I think is the original pressure tank for it. I can get the motor to run in a test tank but it will die out after maybe 15-30 seconds if I don't keep pumping on the primer button on the tank's top. Does anyone have any suggestions about where there are typically a common point of failure with this type of problem? What areas of the fuel delivery system should i concentrate on troubleshooting? Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Hi JT,<br /> Your tank needs to be able to build up and hold air pressure. That said, the most common causes of not keeping that pressure are: loose cap, cracked hoses, leaky o-rings inside the fuel connector, leaky gasket under the top of the tank assembly, rotted rubber gasket inside the gas cap. Check the hoses under the motor hood, too...<br />- Scott

Thanks Scott, that at least gives me a good starting place. I am going out in the boat today on Braddocks Bay north of here off the lake to find a good spot to duck hunt later this month. Wish me luck.

Hello.<br />Bill Mayer on the Webster side of Irondequoit Bay refurbishes the pressure tanks and he has a bunch of rebuild ones in his shop.reach him at 323-1010
