I just hooked up a used 112 SPL on my boat, a 21 foot wooden deadrise. It hadn't been run in about two years, but it seemed to run pretty well this Saturday when I fired it up. I ran it for a few hours with no incident. The next day, I mixed a new tank of gas and took it out again. It ran rough in all RPMs. Like it was missing and trying to die. So I figure I need to tune it up.
What do I need to replace? Plugs, wires, coil?
I think the best plugs for this motor are Champion QL82C. I guess I should get an impeller and T-stat while I'm at it too. Anything else?

Re: 1996 Johnson 112 SPL running rough

I would rebuild the carbs after sitting that long. They tend to gunk up with varnish. Might be some of it broke loose that first run and fouled one up. Rebuild kits are cheap and if you have a manual, it's pretty easy to do. Also, check all the fuel lines and fittings at the motor and engine for air leaks. Might want to replace the fuel line and both fittings. I would also replace the plugs and impeller and possibly the T-Stat while you're at it. QL82C is the correct plug, gapped at .030. Thanks Rick...
Great information. I'll start with the manual and go from there. What about the points and condensor?

Chris

There are none! Also, drain and check the lower unit fluid. Make sure it's not "Milky" looking. Black is OK or clear is fine. Replace screw seals when you refill it.
