Re: What is Evinrude 88 SPL model year?
Barry

Before you fire it up, squirt a little TCW-3 oil in the spark plug holes and turn it over by hand with the flywheel a few times to lubricate the cylinder walls. May have rust on them. Drain and check the lower unit fluid and make sure it's not "Milky" looking. Black is OK. If you do buy it, replace the water pump for sure, as I'm sure it's dry rotted by now. Carbs may also be gummed up with varnish from old fuel sitting in there. It may not run perfect when you first fire it up. Probably need to rebuild Carbs. Also, make sure you use fresh gas when you run it the first time. Most importantly, do a compression check on the engine before you buy it. That will tell you if it's worth fooling with. Should be 100 PSI or better and even readings on all cylinders. Let us know how it goes.
