I have 2 1988 johnson 140's. After being worked on by mech was told that he adjusted the idle down cause he thought it was too high. now it won't idle after it's warmed up. How do I adjust it back up a little. Also, how many rpm's would a good cruise be for an 1988 140 johnson. :)

Welcome aboard the board!

Look for 650-750 rpm in gear in the water and warmed up (to come out of Quick Start on models so equipped). They will tend to idle somewhat higher on land (no backpressure). Once you get your service manual, it will outline the simple sync-n-link proceedure very well. It depends on what he changed as far as telling you where to start. If you do it by the book, that will give you the correct starting place. If you paid him to adjust it, I would suggest you take it back, explain the problem and see if he will show you what he did. Also ask what else he changed.

Good luck!
