1964 johnson runs ruff at high rpms

i have a 1964 johnson super seahorse model#vxl1o5 i just rebuilt carb but there is still something wrong.it runs great at low rpms idles great but when it gets to higher rpm it misses bad and wants to die.i thought that it was the float but i dont think it is now any ideas?

Since it's easiest, I'd still pursue the fuel aspect. While running wfo and the engine is trying to die, use a squirt bottle with some premix in it and give the carb a little shot and notice what happens. If it picks up for just a second and then falls off, you've got a fuel delivery problem. If it falls on its face immediately (flooded) or has no effect, you've probably got an ignition problem.
