hard starting 100HP 1970 Johnson Outboard

I replaced the fuel pump and EVERYTHING back to the fuel tank. Added a water seperator and inline gas filter. Motor very hard to start, starter good. When it tries to start it backfires, sometimes it does start and runs for a few seconds, then dies.. Anybody want to comment?

Timing is incorrect?<br /><br />Are you using the choke?<br /><br />Pumping up primer bulb?<br /><br />TMD

Go to the red Search at the top of the page & enter "hard starting" & read what others have found with the same problem.
