inline filter / electric fuel pump for 9.9 ?

My 1989 9.9 has a fuel pump that is nearly impossible to remove; same for the carb. I guess this was for the weird electric start re-engineer, which I guess was relatively new that year. I was thinking an electric fuel pump and inline filter might be a fix. Anyone tried this?

WHy not just add an inline filter? <br /><br />A faulty electric pump, spraying gas around the place, is kind of scary. With the pulse pump, it stops pumping if engine stops.
