1997 evinrude 28 horse spl (sputters)

This motor begins to sputter just off idle on up to half throttle and then clears itself from half<br />throttle to full power. It appears to be running<br />rich. It always start and idles warm or cold, and has good power. What do you think is wrong?

compression and fire first my friend post it, let us know, secondly, idle air mix , the screw onthe side of the carb, try a 1/8 turn out fromwhere it is, if no fix, 1/8 back, and then 1/8 in, this will richen or lean the engine , youll hear the change of sound from the engine, now in between these adjustments let it run a few minutes and throttle it upto clear it out see if this helps and let us know<br /><br />keep us infoed
