fuel pump

i have a johnson 115 1979 that i think the fuel pump is on upside down. what kind of problems if any are there with leaving it this way?

The fuel hoses etc connect to the bottom of the fuel pump. There's a reason for it to be situated that way. If it's reversed, correct it.
