Prop size

Hello all<br /><br />I have a 1974 evinrude, 15 hp motor. My question is what would be the proper propeler size.At the moment i have a 8 1/2 by ??? ( can't read the rest). Seems like it wont lift my 14 foot fiberglass boat out of the water at top speed. Even worst when we're two in the boat even when the water is flat. Size and pitch has a lot to do with it but which is the best for speed.

14ft fibreglass is alot of boat for 15 ponies...<br />As for your question about props, if you can't read the pitch, you need to take the prop off and see if you can find a part number, and let us know what you find.....Also, make sure the tilt pin is in the bottom hole-lower unit closest to the boat. Check and see where that tilt pin is at, and repost what you find........ :)

The pin is in the bottom hole and the prop size is 10 x 10, I got another one today which is 9 1/2 x 10. Someone told me that a 15 horse should not have any problem outing the boat out the water.

I have three 14 foot boats. <br /><br />An Aluminum Smoker Craft that will plane with 9.5hp. <br /><br />A fiberglass Gamefisher (60 inches wide) that will barely plane with a 15hp carrying one person and no load. It does good with a 20hp. <br /><br />And a fiberglass Lightning (7 feet wide) which needs 35hp but does better with 40hp.

On the prop, which, by you, is better, a 10 x 10 or 9 /12 x 10 with the same pitch ?

I put on the 9 1/2 x 10 prop and it went like hell. Got my boat out planing. So 1/2 an inch on size and getting all the weeds off the prop got the job done. I got the performance i needed. <br /><br />Thank you all for your input.

I need to add that i had an out of alignment shaft sleeve on the other prop wich caused drag ( prop rubbing against the foot of the motor.
