Evinrude Serial number???

#1) Hi can anyone help me with year and model number of 25hp Evinrude motor. All I have is serial number as follows: 5520 52402 <br /><br />#2) Can electric starter be added to this motor? <br /><br />Any info would be greatly appriciated.

25402 is a 1974 25hp engine. I assume you swapped the 2 and 5.<br />I think you can put a starter on that. It should have a place to put one on the left of the carburator, in the casting that holds the pull start. Your best place to find one would be an old outboard junkyard, or tcoutboards.<br />Keep in mind you are probably looking for an electric choke and a solenoid as well. The choke is particulair to the carburator.<br />Good luck!

Thanks to all who replied. Will check in morning for number's 2 & 5 swapped in serial no. I am assuming thet the model number is the last 5 digits of the serial number...is this correct?<br /><br />Will let you know...thanks again.<br /><br />Robert

The serial number and model number are both on the same plate on the transom bracket. They are always separated somehow. Sometimes they're both on the welsh plug (quarter sized freeze plug looking thing) on the engine itself, but often it's just the serial number.<br /><br />25402 makes sense as a model number, if I'm correct about you having made a mistake.
