Critter.... The engine is breathing its own exhaust fumes. Check the large rubber exhaust relief tube just under and at the rear of the powerhead to be sure that it is not cracked, and also that it is seated correctly.<br /><br />Half way down the exhaust housing (hsg between the powerhead and the lower unit), you'll see a oblong plate attached with two screws. UNder that plate, you'll see another "inner" plate. If that inner plate is loose, or if the gasket is missing, exhaust fumes will be forced out there, up, and into the air intake of the carburetor.
