Ok folks, I went and purchased a tiny tach, it has leads the wrap around the spark plug wire, and picks up the induction. The instructions say no more the 8 ft away from the plug, Well the closest I can get is almost 10 ft. Do you think this will interfear with anything having that extra 2 ft?

Re: Tiny Tach

Hook up a short wire to the plug wire and run the boat, take several readings at different speeds. Then hook up a 10 or 12 foot wire and take readings at the same speeds as earlier and see how much it differs.

If you return the tach to 'um, they'll put a 10' wire on it for you and re-calibrate it.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Tiny Tach

When you order from Tiny Tach, they will supply a custom longer length wire for extra cost.

You need to call them and then return it with those instructions.

Re: Tiny Tach

Well folks, finally got the right part. (its not a tiny tach, similar though, cabelas only carried I believe its called scen tek or something like that) anyhow. I hooked it up to the #1 plug wire, wrapped the wire in the same as the directions, its acting weird, when the motor is at idle it flucuating near 3000 rmp, then as I w.o.t it will peg around 9000 rpm then slowly come down to what I would consider normall of around 4800-5000. Could it be picking up induction from the other cable running near the wire? Right now Im kinda puzzled any ideas?............ there is no way my 28 hp is turning 9000 without it blowing apart.....lol

Re: Tiny Tach

Talk with the manufacturer.

My TinyTach has to have the lead wrapped around BOTH of my plug wires.

The brand X item you bought may simply not work with your engine. TinyTach has several models for different engines.
