removal of lower unit johnson 9.9- 1987

getting myself a copy of a tune-up and repair manual for my 1987 johnson 9.9hp would take sometime. could anybody please help me with some information on how to remove the lower unit of my engine? i already tried removing the 6 bolts holding it in place but the lower unit just won't let go !thank you.

I believe its the shift conneting rod thats keeping it together. If you put the shift lever in reverse does it drop down?? If so you should see the rod in there. It has a nut on it that you have to remove completely before it will slide out......
