Adding soundproofing to the inside of the hood will tend to hold heat in. Not good. Those motors shouldnt be that loud anyway. What kind of boat? what kind of prop? What is so noisy? Exhaust? Intake? Stock hood?

Let us know!
'97 Hydra-Sports 2450WA, stock aluminum prop, engine runs perfect, less than 100 hours on it. I guess I am just not used to the loudness of these 2 strokers and want to try to cut the noise level down some.
What are you comparing the noise level to? I've had I/O's, 4-cycle, and 2-cycle. 2-cycles are definately louder. I have a 96 Evinrude 225 Ocean pro and when I'm on a plane you will have to yell at the guy standing right nect to you at the console. That's just normal.
I am used to inboards or I/O's, so the sound of the outboard is significantly louder. I have to presume most of the racket is the exhaust. The cover is stock and has louvers on the top and foam on the inside. When you are up on plane you do have to yell to the guy standing next to you it is so loud. I just want to know if there are any aftermarket items that can help cut down on the noise. There is a website that sells soundproofing for outboard motors. It is applied on the inside of the motor cover. http://users.primushost.com/~dobquiet/outboard.htm
