I have a 1971 Evinrude ARROW GLASS boat, 14 foot 40 h.p. with a dash emblem named Phantom...my problem is it has a push button forward neutral and reverse switch, well when I went to pick up the boat the switch was stolen. I am now in search for what I am told may be impossible. I am also told that I can use a toggle switch so I am here now asking for advise from you out there knowing more than I do will a toggle switch work if so what wire will be correct as to hooking the switch up all the wires are togather in the shifter control unit. What does Dpdt and a separate switch has letters Spdt both of these are of a toggle switch I have found aftermarket. Does anyone have the wiring schematics of this and also I have a question as to the ignition switch I took it loose but not disconnected the wiring I see a gray wire that looks as if it has never been connected what is the function of this wire? Does anyone have the schematics of this also. I am willing to pay for all the hlep I can get and or tell me where I can buy these parts if they sale them as if from the factory or the toggle switch will work PLEASE ADVISE I need the help THANKS. Mr.AmigaDragon, I would like to know if you found this switch at a dealership in which they have more than one or is this a factory switch or aftermarket. I am told they stopped making these switches 1989, very rare to find...If you don't mind sharing the company name and phone number I can call to see if they offer an extra one. I would not and will not try to buy it if it is the only one they have and your needing it. I will wait and continue to search till it shows up...hopefully. Do you recall ever seeing a switch as the one I am describing the switch I am talking about is a three button switch behind the throttle lever. This switch is contained is a rectangular mount first button is forward - middle is neutral and rear is reverse. Is this what you have or can get. I am adding this as I am not sure if my last post reply was sent I tryed to move the prop turns about half a turn and I can turn it back to starting position. I am not sure what position it is in at the moment I bought the boat and I am doing pre-maintaince to it and I have came to this point. I dont want to hook a battery to it and it starts to cause any damages to the lower unit. That is why I asked about the gray wire in the ignition. I see it is disconnected and looks clean as if never hooked up. I do see a tach on the dash but too I never had the boat in the water so I am not sure if the tach is operational. It may sound like I got a piece of a junk boat but it just needs some minor stuff and it will be back to par. I HOPE with you help.
