I received a free boat that has a 1957 evinrude 35 horse big twin motor on it(serial # 25930-08866). The gas can was not included. My father found one without the hose from a friend but I havent looked at it yet. What should I look for to know if it will work, and are the hose fittings all the same? (I do know the motor has a two pronged connector, one prong for gas to enter and one prong to attach to hose.)

Check it carefully it originally came with a twin hose system. If your sure it is a fuel connector and a latch then it is converted.Thats good because any single hose tank with the proper connector will work.

The original engine came with a two-hose setup that has two ports which are horizontal, and a prong above them in a triangle.

If it was converted to a fuel pump system, the engine terminal will have one port with a prong vertically above it.

As Spike said, any modern tank will hook up to the latter design.

If it's orginal, you need a pressure tank and hose. I see used ones on eBay all the time.

Thanks for the help. I knew the fuel pump didn't look like it belonged where it is at. I received my manual last night and the fuel pump is the one that is rebuildable, so this might actually work out good. thanks again.
