How sturdy are the Johnson 40 motors of the early to mid sixties in regards to their lower unit? I see brass props available all the time for them and think they would be mmuch more durable than the alumunum rock finders they have out today<br />"well, since you cant weld a new half a blade on here, can ya cut the rest down and balance em?"<br />seems like every sand bar I hit has a rock hiding in it ... <br /><br />composite would be a good way to go if I could get one for a motor this old, but it seems there are a bunch of em out there<br /><br />or their owners all huddle here in a masochist's society, lol<br /><br /> :p

The problem with bronze props is the weight. They weigh considerably more than similar aluminum props and put that much more strain on the drivetrain, particularly the clutch-dog. <br /> <br />What are you using for shear pins? If you're hitting rocks, it should shear the pin before major prop damage is done.<br /><br />- Scott
